The first edition. 

Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece, engraved title page, and twenty-eight monochrome plates. Collated, complete. 

Beautifully bound in half contemporary calf, with ornate gilt tooling to the spine. 

A later novel from the Irish novelist Charles Lever, following English travellers in Italy. The work has themes of social commentary, depicting interesting contrasts between the locals and the English travellers.

Condition

Bound in half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Externally very smart with minimal rubbing to the boards, and very slight wear to the extremities. Internally firmly bound with bright pages with the odd spot, heavier to the plates.
