The fifth edition of this work, originally published in 1833. In two volumes. Unfortunately bound without the folding map. With half titles and advertisements to rear vol. 2.
Victor Jacquemont was a French botanist and geologist, well-known for his travels in India. The present work contains his collected letters sent to his family and friends during his first travel through India in 1828-32. During this time, he visited Calcutta, Delhi, the western Himalayas, Bengal &c until he died of cholera in Bombay.
Condition
Rebacked with the original paper wraps restored, titles inked in pen by previous owner. Glassine wrap taped around covers vol. I by previous owner. Externally sound with shelf wear, chipping to extremities of spine, closed tear to spine vol. 2. Internally, binding tender. Split in places to vol. I, up to p. 49, first leaves of text held by one cord only. Minor spotting scattered to leaves.
