Comprised of Charlotte Bronte's 'The Professor', first published three years prior, and a collection of poetry from all three Bronte sisters, first published together in 1846.
'The Professor' was the first novel written by Bronte, even prior to 'Jane Eyre', however it was rejected by numerous publishing houses and was ultimately published posthumously, with the approval of Bronte's widower, Arthur Bell Nicholls.
Written under one of her pseudonyms Currer Bell, 'The Professor' tells the story of the growth and maturation of William Crimsworth, a young man who working as a teacher in Brussels.
With a selection of poetry by Currer, Acton and Ellis Bell, including 'Pilate's Wife's Dream', 'A Reminiscence' and 'Love and Friendship'.
With eight pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear and additional advertisements to endpapers and paste downs.
Condition
Bound in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, sound, with soiling and discolouration to the boards and some bumping to the extremities. Spine has darkened. Cloth is slightly cockled to spine and rear board. Hinges are strained, with cords visible. Internally, binding is tender in places, with p75-86 detached. Pages are bright, with the odd handling mark.
