Detailing the history of the group between 1638 and 1688, and their support of Charles I in the Second English Civil War, and the tumultuous period in the Scottish history known as 'The Killing Time'.
This was a period of conflict between the Presbyterian Covenanters and the governing forces of Kings Charles II and James VII.
With the illustrated bookplate of British ornithologist, conservationist, painter, naval officer, broadcaster and sportsman Peter Markham Scott to the front pastedown. Scott was the only child of Antarctic explorer Sir Robert Falcon Scott.
With a final advertisement tipped in to the rear.
An exceptionally lovely copy of the first edition of this very scarce work, in a signed quarter morocco binding by Maltby's of Oxford.

In a signed quarter morocco binding, with cloth covered boards and endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
