Illustrated with a frontispiece and eight plates. Collated complete. A vast array of spiritual musing, poetry and satires, being the complete works of George Herbert, an English poet, orator, and priest of the Church of England. His poetry is associated with the writings of the metaphysical poets, and he is recognised as "one of the foremost British devotional lyricists." Alongside the satires and psalms of Joseph Hall, an English bishop, satirist and moralist whose contemporaries knew him as a devotional writer, as well as a high-profile controversialist of the early 1640s.
Condition
Bound in full tooled crushed morocco. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. Light loss to the tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot. Further spotting and light age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
