Complete in two volumes.

A fantastic dictionary on chemistry, exploring all aspects of the science: theoretical, practical, and analytical. Volume I contains acetic acid to ether, Volume II fuel to zinc. 

This was an influential textbook, written by the Irish-born research chemist and teacher James Sheridan Muspratt. His father was one of the biggest industrial chemicals manufacturers in the UK id the mid-19th century, James taking over the company alongside his brothers when his father retired. 

Volume I is illustrated with a frontispiece, engraved title, thirty plates, and in-text engravings throughout.

Volume II is illustrated with a frontispiece, engraved title, and in-text engravings throughout.

Collated, complete.

Condition

In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, rear board of Volume II is starting but firm. Light rubbing and marks to the boards and spines, small dampstain to the front board of Volume II. Small tears to the joints. Extremities are bumped, heavier to Volume I. Small chip to the front board of Volume I, and to the front joint. Small chips to the rear board of Volume II. Hinges are starting but firm. Spots to the endpapers. Rear endpaper of Volume II is torn. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots.
