With twelve plates including a frontispiece, twelve of which are chromolithographs, and numerous in text vignettes. Collated complete. 

An extraordinary exploration into British marine biology. Written by Philip Henry Gosse, an English naturalist remembered for being an important proponent of the aquarium, coining the term with his work 'The Aquarium: An Unveiling of the Wonders of the Deep Sea'. Gosse was a pioneering marine biologist.

Condition

In the publisher's original green cloth. Externally in lovely condition, with minor shelf wear only. Internally, binding strained in places. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting, heavier to the first and last few pages.
