A guide to the trick-card game of 'whist', popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth century, by Captain Crawley. The rare first edition dated from Jisc 1859.

With some chapters also on loo, a seventeenth century trick-card game, and cribbage. 

In the original publisher's cloth binding with gilt to the edges.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding with gilt to the edges. Externally with some shelf wear and edge wear and some soiling to the boards. The rear board has a faint damp marking and a white minor mark, the front board presents some minimal damp marks to the upper right extremity. The head and tail of the spine and extremities are slightly bumped. Evidence of attempted removal of an inscription on the front pastedown, and an imprint by the bookseller on the front free endpaper. Internally, With a faint minor spotting to the first and last few leaves, otherwise the pages are bright and clean.
