Very scarce.
This is the spirited memoir of Miss Elizabeth Tatton, an officer's daughter, by the nineteenth-century evangelical preacher Reverend Octavius Winslow. Octavius Winslow was the direct descendant of John Winslow and Mary Chilton, some of the earliest European settlers in America who travelled on the Mayflower in 1620. He maintained a strong connection to the city of Bath, becoming the founder and first minister of Kensington Chapel, and is buried locally at Bath Abbey Cemetery, the Cemetery of St Peter and St Paul.
Condition
In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart barring some minor marks, heaviest to the spine and rear board, and slight fading to the spine's cloth. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities with a marginal split to the cloth at the former. Previous owner's inscription to the front pastedown and dedication page. Front free endpaper has been excised. Archival attempted removal of an inscription to the title page resulting in some rubbing, discolouration of, and a chip to the top edge, not impacting text. Internally, firmly bound with pages that are bright and clean barring a touch of age toning and the odd spot.
