The first edition, first impression of this work, without a imprint to the verso of the title page.

'Idylls of the King' is the first volume in Tennyson's cycle of twelve narrative poems, retelling the legend of King Arthur and his love for Guinevere.

Written by Alfred Lord Tennyson, a noted Victorian poet who was the Poet Laureate for most of Queen Victoria's reign.

Eight pages of adverts to the front, dated July 1859.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, worn. Loss to the head and tail of the spine. Spine and extremities are faded. Light marks and rubbing to the cloth. Tears to the joints, heavier to the front joint. Hinges are tender. Prior owner's aged tape repairs to the gutters from the half-title to fly-title, and rear hinge. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. First page of the adverts is torn and partly adhered to the front paste down.
