An early edition, this work was first published in 1858. Very scarce work. This work is comprised of thirty-four papers, mainly consisting of descriptive essays on London streets and people, which were originally published in the columns of the weekly periodical 'Household Words'. This popular magazine was published between 1850 and 1859, and was edited by the famed writer Charles Dickens. This particular work contains chapters on 'Getting up a Pantomime', 'City Spectres' 'Leicester Square' and 'Things Departed', among many others. Written by George Augustus Henry Fairfield Sala, an English author and journalist who wrote extensively for the Illustrated London News and was most famous for his articles and leaders for The Daily Telegraph.

Condition

Bound in half calf with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark.
