What Our Customers Say...
Description
Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
Very scarce work. A collection of the Irish Melodies of Thomas Moore, an Irish writer, poet, and lyricist, widely regarded in his lifetime as Ireland's "national bard". The Melodies were published in ten volumes, together with a supplement, over twenty-six years between 1808 and 1834. This volume contains a selection of fifty melodies, including: Go Where Glory Waits Thee, Oh Breathe Not His Name, and Rich and Rare Were the Gems She Wore, all with the original musical scores harmonized for four voices. Harmonized by Michael William Balfe, an Irish composer, best remembered for his operas, especially The Bohemian Girl. Previously held in the library of Sir Thomas Wardle, a British businessman, known for his innovations in silk dyeing and printing on silk. He was married to celebrated fabric artist Elizabeth Wardle, and often collaborated with the designer William Morris. Dated from the University of Oxford Libraries.
