With chapters on Judith, Portia, Eleanor of Castile, Joan D'Arc, Mary Queen of Scots, and many others. Written by Emily Owen, an English composer, poet and author in the Victorian era. She was married to English scholar Octavius Freire Owen, and published as Mrs. Octavius Freire Owen. Illustrated by Sir John Gilbert, an English artist, illustrator and engraver.
Condition
In the original full blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Rear hinge just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small handling mark. Minor spotting and light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1859.
