First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

Bound from the parts, with stab holes present. First issue, with 'actresses' for 'ancestresses' to page 207 and chapters 47 and 48 misnumbered. Illustrated throughout, with a frontispiece and twenty two plates to each volume. Collated, complete. 'The Virginians' is an historical novel by Thackeray and forms a sequel to his novel 'Henry Esmond.' The work is set during the American War of Independence and follows Esmond's twin grandsons, George and Henry Warrington. The work has become a standard novel of nineteenth century fiction.

Condition

In half calf bindings with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart with light shelfwear to the joints and extremities. Spines have faded slightly, with light rubbing. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with occasional light spots.
