Led by Lieutenant Edwin De Haven, the team explored the accessible areas along Franklin's proposed route. Being the search for Rear-Admiral Sir John Franklin, a British Royal Navy officer, explorer and colonial administrator following his attempt to traverse the Northwest Passage in 1845, where his ships became icebound off King William Island. Written by Elisha Kent Kane, a United States Navy medical officer and Arctic explorer. He was senior medical officer in the First Grinnell expedition and was credited with the discovery of an encampment and gravesite from Franklin's lost expedition on Beechey Island.
Condition
Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with minor age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
