This travelogue documents the authors first, second, and third visits to the East, covering the customs, geography, and history of the counties visited in the author's travels. Describing his journeys to Malta, Smyrna, Egypt, Cairo, Ethiopia, Jerusalem, Rome, Florence, Venice, and more.

Illustrated with a colour folding map to the frontispiece, and in-text wood engravings throughout. Collated, complete.

A second volume was later published, recounting the author's fourth and fifth travels.

Condition

In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the head of the spine. Cloth to the joints is a little cockled. Advert for 'Nineveh' tipped-in to the recto of the front endpaper. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots. Small closed tear to the folding map.
