Condition
In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, rubbed. Small cracks to the head and tail of the front joint, and a larger crack to the tail of the rear joint, resulting in the leather to be lifting. Minor bumping to the extremities, lighter bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Spine is a little faded. Rubbing has resulted in a little loss of paper to the extremities. Hinges are a little strained but remain firm. Internally, generally firmly bound, with a few leaves detaching. Pages are lightly age toned, with some spots, including to the plates. Light tide mark to the margin of the frontispiece, engraved title, and to the margins of the plates facing pages 594 and 624. The occasional pencil note to the text, correcting printing mistakes made in this first issue.
