First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding
The first edition first issue of this work, being bound from the parts, with puncture marks present to the gutter. With 'William' for 'Frederick on page 317 line 27, B2 instead of BB2 on page 371, and 'Rigaud' for 'Blandois' on pages 469-73. Issue points as stated by John C. Eckel in his 1913 publication 'The First Editions of the Writings of Charles Dickens'.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, engraved title page, and thirty-eight plates. Collated, all plates are present, including the dark plates.
Bound without half-title.
'Little Dorrit' follows Amy Dorrit, who was born and raised in the Marshalsea debtors prison. It was originally published in monthly instalments over nineteen months, and this is the first edition published in a complete book.
Charles Dickens is possibly the most well-known Victorian author, with his fifteen novels still being widely read and performed, as well as being studied in school and enjoyed by people of all ages.
Illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne, most often known by his penname 'Phiz'. As Phiz, he illustrated many of Dickens' novels, including 'David Copperfield', 'Dombey and Son', and 'Bleak House', as well as illustrating for 'Punch' throughout his life.
Condition
In a rebacked half calf binding, with cloth to the boards, and new endpapers. Externally, smart. Bumping to the extremities. Some light rubbing to the boards and spine. A few small marks to the boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots, spots a little heavier to the plates.
