First book edition. First published serially from 1855-1857.
Bound into two volumes, separating Book the First and Book the Second. Book the Second has been rebound with the vignette title page and with the plate facing 325 ('The Travellers') as its frontispiece.
'Little Dorrit' centres around Amy Dorrit, the youngest child of her family, born and raised in the Marshalsea prison. Drawing on Dickens' own experiences of his father being imprisoned in Marshalsea, the novel satirises the injustices of the contemporary English legal system.
Illustrated by H. K. Browne or 'Phiz', with a frontispiece and twenty plates to Book the First (Volume I) and a vignette title and eighteen plates to Book the Second (Volume II).
Collated, complete.
Condition
Uniformly bound in half morocco, with marbled boards and endpapers. Externally, smart, with rubbing to the extremities and scuffs to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean. Toning to the illustrated plates and scattered spots to the first and last few leaves.
