A collaborative work from a number of authors, this volume features surveys the peoples of different continents with descriptions of their physical characteristics, languages and cultures, and includes striking chromolithographic plates of racial “types.”

Rebound in half calf, with endpapers renewed. With two tipped in leaves of former owner's notes to the rear, and with a former owner's inscription to title page head.

The book reflects the period’s attempts to systematise knowledge of global populations within a comparative framework.

Condition

Rebound in half calf, with cloth covered boards. Externally excellent, but with back strip lightly age toned, as is common with this shade of calf. Endpapers renewed. Internally, firmly bound. Inscription to title page head. Pages a touch age toned, with the odd spot. With two tipped in leaves of former owner's notes to the rear.
