Very scarce work. Being a collection of issues from The Paisley Wallet and Literary Album for the year 1856, running from No. 1, January 1856 to No. 12, December 1856, with an additional collection as volume II. With an inscription from the editor in presentation to James Caldwell, Esquire, dated 7th September 1858. Caldwell was a prominent gentleman of Paisley, local historian, member of Paisley Burns Club and of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. The Paisley Wallet was a local monthly periodical for Paisley, a large town situated in the west central Lowlands of Scotland, offering poetry, short stories, and articles contributed from Scottish writers. With titles such as: The Rationale of Dreams, Henry Gordon: A Tale, A Night at a Party, Law and Literature, and A Word to Young Men on Natural Science, amongst others.
Condition
Bound in full morocco with gilt. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Minor age toning to the endpapers with contemporary ink and pencil inscriptions to the contents pages.
