The illustrations to this work were drawn by Hamley himself.

Hamley, an officer in the Royal Artillery and later a noted military writer, authored this work based on his first-hand experiences during the Crimean War.
He provides a detailed narrative of the Siege of Sebastopol, focusing on the operations of the British forces.
Including observations on the conduct of the war, conditions in the camp, and military strategy.
Condition
In a half straight grain morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards. A touch of rubbing to board perimeters and joints, with further rubbing to marbled paper, otherwise externally excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally bright, with only the odd spot, most concentrated to leaves surrounding plates.
