Complete in two volumes. The collected poetical works of John Dryden, an English poet, literary critic, translator, and playwright who in 1668 was appointed England's first Poet Laureate. He dominated the literary life of Restoration England to such a point that the period came to be known in literary circles as the Age of Dryden. With titles including: On the Death of Lord Hastings, The Medal, The Fair Stranger, On the Young Statesman, and The Lady's Song, amongst others. With the life of the author, a critical dissertation, and explanatory notes from George Gilfillan, a Scottish author and poet who was one of the spasmodic poets, as well as an editor and commentator.

Condition

In the original full calf binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with marks to the boards. Hinges just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with minor age toning to the endpapers. Light spotting to the first and last few pages.
