Laurence Oliphant's autobiographical account of his journey through Russia. Oliphant was a member of parliament and a British author and traveller. He left his law studies to travel in Russia, writing this work as a result. The work was written before the start of the Crimean war, with this later edition featuring an additional chapter with his views and remarks on the war in connection to his travels.

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with a slight lean, slight marks to the boards, bumping and light edge wear. Owner's ink inscription to the pastedown. The odd page starting, otherwise firm. Pages very lightly age toned with the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear.
