With fifty vignette wood-engravings, from designs by Birket Foster and Jane E. Hay. Collated, complete.
In a signed decorative calf binding by J. Wright.
With the bookplate of Charlotte C. Williamson to the front pastedown, and the contemporary inscription of Frances Palliser, dated Sept. 1856, to a front blank.
A first edition thus, being the first edition to feature these illustrations.
Condition
In a full calf signed binding with extensive gilt detailing. Rubbing to boards, with light discolouration to back strip. Light rubbing to back strip tail. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Contemporary inscription to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright, with only the odd instance of light spotting.
