Description

Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed, Very Scarce

Inscribed by the author to the half title head with 'Dr. Fincham, from the author'.

A vanishingly scarce first edition.

Physician Charles Bland Radcliffe's work examines epilepsy and similar neurological disorders.

Rather than supporting the prevailing idea that epilepsy was caused by brain lesions, Radcliffe presented the idea that epilepsy and related conditions were due to a dysfunction in the nervous system, particularly an excessive excitability of the motor nerves.

With a stamp to the title page head reading 'Presented to the library by Mrs Fincham', and the stamp of the British Medical Association Library to the title page. Further stamp to title page verso and to final leaf.

With discussion of the medical treatment of affection of the nervous system that cause tremors, convulsions and spasms.

Condition

Rebacked, in the publisher's original cloth binding. Paper label adhered to back strip. Hinges strained but firmly held. Retaining the original endpapers. Half title detached to head. Inscription to half title head. Internally, firmly bound. Library stamps to title page recto and verso, and to final leaf. Pages otherwise clean and bright.
