Two uniformly bound collections by Babington Macaulay, being 'Critical and Historical Essays contributed to the Edinburgh Review', which is in three volumes, and 'The History of England from the Accession of James the Second', which is in five volumes.
'The History of England' is an eleventh edition'; 'Critical and Historical Essays' is an eighth edition.
'Critical and Historical Essays' contains essays on Milton, Robert Montogomery, Lord Clive, Warren Hastings, Leigh Hunt, Madame d'Arblay, Horace Walpole, War of the Succession in Spain, Moore's Life of Lord Byron and Civil Disabilities of the Jews, amongst others.
'The History of England' covers seventeen years between 1685 until 1702, including the reign of James II, the Glorious Revolution, and the reigns of William III and Mary II.
Thomas Babington Macaulay was an essayist, Whig politician and historian. Both of these works are notable for their attachment to the Whig approach to historiography.

In a half calf binding. Externally lovely, with just a touch of occasional rubbing to the leather. Previous seller's pencil marks to the verso of the front endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
