For his Imaginary Conversations he drew on a vast array of historical characters from Greek philosophers to contemporary writers. He composed conversations between pairs of characters that covered areas of philosophy, politics, romance and many other topics. With regards to his poetry, he is now often described as 'a poet's poet' and author of perhaps the greatest very short poems in English. Some of the best known 19th century poets, Yeats, Ezra Pound and Robert Frost among them, were influenced by him. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist.
Condition
In the original cloth. Externally smart, with slight wear to the head of the spine, and slight fading to the spine. Internally very slightly cockled, but clean and bright throughout, and firmly bound.
