Illustrated, Leather Binding, Uncommon

An 1853 copy of Maxwell's novel, in excellent condition.

Bound in black half calf, with smart red marbled boards.

W. H. Maxwell, was an influential Irish writer of military fiction.

Features a frontispiece and 7 further monochrome plates, drawn by illustrator and caricaturist John Leech, known for his illustrations to the first edition of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'.
Collated, complete.

Decorated with marbled endpapers, and gilt motifs to the ribbed spine.
Bound by Whitelaw and Fensham, binder's stamp to front free endpaper.

Condition

Bound in black half calf with marbled pictorial boards. Externally, excellent condition. Very slight rubbing to extremities. Slight loss of leather to spine tips. Slight fading to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, spotting primarily reserved to ends of the text block.
