A two volume complete set, featuring the first and second series, with the second series being the first edition. The first series was first published in 1850, after several of the 'pilgrimages' first appeared in 'The Art Journal'.
Illustrated with monochrome vignettes throughout by F. W. Fairholt.
Bound in full calf with gilt detailing to the spines.
Anna Maria Hall's account of her trips to the graves and shrines of noted individuals, providing a guide to important locations relating to noteworthy individuals. Hall includes trips to locations such as the birth place of John Bunyan, the tomb of Thomas Gray, the Shaftesbury house, the prison of Lady Gray, and the interior of Bradshaw's House.
Condition
Bound in full calf. Externally, slight marks to the boards, slight discolouration to the extremities, light edge wear, and loss to the head of the spine with front joint tender and rear starting to 'second series'. Bookplates of 'James Watson' to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound with bright pages, occasional ink notations to the margins to both, and to the blanks to 'Second series' with a newspaper clipping , and light spotting to the front and rear, otherwise clean.
