What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Uncommon

The third edition, revised and enlarged, of this work, rebacked with the publisher's original cloth binding laid down to the spine and boards.

Library bookplates to the front paste down, and a library stamp to the title page, of the Long Island Historical Society. The Long Island Historical Society, opened in 1863, was the first cultural institution of its kind on Long Island.

Horace Green (1802-1866) became the first specialist in the United States to devote himself to diseases of the throat. In 1840, he announced that he had used a sponge-tipped probang, inserted into the larynx, to apply medication directly to the laryngeal mucosa. This was met with a critical and skeptical response.

In this notable work, he explains his innovative methods for treating diseases of the air passages, such as bronchitis and follicular disease of the throat. He includes his own colour drawings of the throat, follicular disease of the throat, and the instruments he uses.

Illustrated with six colour plates and one black-and-white folding plate. Collated, complete.

Condition
