Bound in a half green morocco with gilt detailing and vibrant blue morocco boards, with the second series being the first edition. The first series was first published in 1850, after several of the 'pilgrimages' first appeared in 'The Art Journal'. 

Two volumes, the first and second series, bound as one. 

Richly illustrated with in-text engravings by F. W. Fairholt. 

A work by Anna Maria Hall exploring notable English shrines connected to literary and historical figures. Featured sites include John Bunyan’s birthplace, Hannah More’s residence, Sir Thomas Gresham’s tomb, William Caxton’s printing office, James Barry’s dwelling, Lady Mary Grey’s prison, and many others.

Condition

Bound in morocco. Eternally, smart. Slight damp staining to front board. Joints slightly cracked, but holding firm. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in minor loss to morocco. The odd slight handling mark to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot, heavier to first and last few leaves and fore edge.
