Volume II, reporting the fall of the monarchy with chapters on the French Republic, the campaign of 1792, and the war in La Vendee.

Volume III, the Reign of Terror, with chapters on the fall of Robespierre, war in Poland, the establishment of the directory, and the rise of Napoleon.

Volume IV, naval campaigns of Great Britain, the fall of Venice, the internal government of France, and expedition into Egypt.

In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally, generally smart. Closed tearing to head of volume I, with slight loss, upper portion of spine loose but holding. First leaf of publisher’s advertisements partially cut out. Front joint of volume I, slightly cracked. Previous owner’s inscription to front free endpaper of volumes I, VIII, IX, X. Bookseller’s discreet blind stamp to front free endpapers of volumes I, III, V, and IX. Previous bookseller’s discreet label to front paste down. Previous owner’s small annotation to rear free endpaper of VI. Discreet tape repair to front hinge of Volume VI. Clippings from contemporary publisher’s advertisements affixed to front endpapers of Volume XII. Internally, firmly bound. Hinges slightly strained in places, but holding. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot, heavier to first and last few leaves.
