In a full red textured cloth binding with blind stamping and gilt, bound by Bone and Son, London.

Illustrated with an engraved title page, frontispiece, and a further twenty-eight plates. Collated, complete. Frontispiece fully disbound, but present.

First published in 1841, this is Richard and George Cattermole's illustrated history of the English Civil War and the roles played in British history by Oliver Cromwell and King Charles I

With the text from Rev. Richard Cattermole, and the illustrations from his brother, George Cattermole, a painter and illustrator who collaborated with Dickens to produce illustrated editions of 'The Old Curiosity Shop' and 'Barnaby Rudge'.

Cattermole's battle scenes depicting the Cavaliers and Roundheads are among his most highly praised works, and are present in this volume, and aid the author in his desire to 'set before the reader History in Action'.
