A new edition of the work.

Bound in full calf with gilt decorations to the board and spine and gilt lettering and raised bands to the spine and marbled end papers.

With a frontispiece by W. Greatbach and a vignette to the half title.

This work contains a collection of works from the Rev. Sydney Smith. Smith was an English writer and Anglican cleric. He was also known for founding the 'Edinburgh Review' and for lecturing at the Royal Institution. This collection of work contains articles originally published in the Edinburgh Review and discusses topics such as prisons, sermons and speeches.

Condition

In full calf. Externally very smart with fading to the spine and bumping to the extremities resulting in rubbing. Light marks to the boards, heavier to the rear. Minor rubbing to the spine and joints. Past owners bookplate and light tide marks to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound with bright pages. Generally clean with the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear. Old ink inscription dated 1856 to the front blank and tidemarks to the rear blanks.
