The third edition of this very scarce work.

Written by British physiologist Herbert Mayo, known particularly for his medical writings.

This interesting work explores the history of old superstition and the influence this has on modern thinking and charlatanism. Mayo presents the truths behind practices including the divining rod, vampyrism, true ghosts, mesmerism and religious delusions, among many others.

With twenty-four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, sound, with bumping to the extremities. Loss to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine, with splits to the joints. A little damp staining to the board extremities, causing cloth to lift a little at the edge of the front board. The odd mark. Hinges are a touch strained, but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with a little spotting to the first and last pages.
