First Edition, Leather Binding

The first edition of the work. With a frontispiece portrait to volume one. Half titles present. Bound without advertisements. Bookplate of Henry B. H. Beaufoy to front pastedown of all volumes. Lavengro is one of Borrow's best known books. He wrote novels and travelogues based on his experiences travelling around Europe. As a genre, Lavengro falls between a memoir and novel. A classic of nineteenth century literature, it follows the son of an officer who after serving an apprenticeship as a lawyer, becomes a Grub Street Hack, allowing him to observe London low-life.
