Uniformly bound in half crushed morocco, with marbled boards and endpapers. 

Each volume is complete with an illustrated frontispiece and illustrated title page. 

This set comprises two collections of Scott's poetry (one being complete), his Waverley Novels (lacking three volumes), twelve volumes of his 'Miscellaneous Prose' and four volumes from his memoir written by John Gibson Lockhart.

Waverley Novels (1851). Lacking volumes XIII, XLV and XLVIII. 

The Waverley Novels are a long series of historical novels that were among the most popular and widely read in Europe. Despite their popularity, Scott did not publicly reveal his authorship of them until 1827. Comprising the following volumes:

Memoirs of the Life of Sir Walter Scott by J. G. Lockhart (1851) - Containing Volumes III, V and VII and X out of seven total. 

John Gibson Lockhart was a Scottish writer and editor, best known as the author of this much-admired biography of his father-in-law.

Condition

Uniformly bound in a half crushed morocco, with marbled boards and endpapers. Externally, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Most notable instances to 1868 Poetical Works, particularly volumes 2 and 12, which also have damp staining to the boards. Darkening to the spines. Black ink mark to the front board of Vol XVI of Waverley novels. Bookplate of one F. D. Astley to the front pastedowns of 1868 'Poetical Works'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean. With tide marks to the first few leaves of Volume 2 of 'Poetical Works' and to Volume V of 'Life of Scott'. Generally with only the odd spot across the set, with most concentrated spotting to the endpapers.
