A delightful collection of four volumes from the mid 19th century 'National Illustrated Library' series.

The earliest of the works here is the 1851 first English language publication of Alexander Dumas's 'Pictures of Travel in the South of France', illustrated with a frontispiece and title page, and with vignette illustrations throughout. A wonderful travel work from the author of 'The Count of Monte Cristo' and 'The Three Musketeers'.

Also present is a mixed edition complete two volume set of E. R. Huc's 'Travels in Tartary, Thibet, and China, during the years 1844-5-6'. Volume I is present in the first edition, and volume II in the second edition. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece and title page to each volume, with a folding map to volume I, and vignette illustrations throughout. Collated, complete.

The final volume only is the 1854 first edition of volume I only of 'History of Russia from the Foundation of the Empire by Rourick to the Close of the Hungarian War' by Alphonse Rabbe and Jonathan Duncan. Lacking volume II.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and title page, folding map, and eight tinted plates. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to back strip heads and tails. Horizontal closed tear to head of back strip of one volume. Rear joint of Huc volume starting, with board tenderly held, with head of front joint of Russia volume starting, and board somewhat tenderly held. Remaining hinges strained but firmly held. Inscription to Russia front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with handling marks and instances of spotting throughout. Former owner's hand colouring to nine leaves of Dumas volume.
