The first one volume edition, first published in monthly parts in paper wraps. 

Illustrated by Phiz with a monochrome frontispiece and engraved title page, and thirty-eight monochrome plates. Collated, complete. 

Bound in later half calf. Endpapers and blanks renewed, lacking half title but retaining engraved title page.

A novel from Charles Lever, following the adventures of a young man called Roland Cashel. The work was inspired by his time working as a surgeon on an emigrant ship in Canada.

Condition

Bound in later half calf. Endpapers and blanks renewed, lacking half title but retaining engraved title page. Externally very smart with slight fading to the spine, light rubbing to the boards and a slight lean. Internally firmly bound with bright pages with occasional light spotting, heavier to the front and several of the plates. Very minimal tidemarks to the extremities of several plates.
