In half red calf with marbled boards. 

Written by French author, poet, and statesman Alphonse de Lamartine, a leading figure of the 1848 French Revolution. He served as Foreign Minister during the revolution, frequently working to ease tensions between the government and the working class. 

His literary fame was established through his lyrics in Méditations poétiques, which led to Lamartine to be established as one of the key figures of the Romantic movement in French literature. 

This work is a lyrical and romantic novel of love and betrayal set in rural France in the late 18th century. 


Condition

In half calf. Externally, smart. Fading to edges of boards and spine with light rubbing on the joints. Minor shelf wear to extremities. Ink inscription and ink stamp to front paste down. Archival tape to rear paste down. Blind stamp to rear free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are clean and bright. Ink inscription to title page. The odd spot to the front and rear of the work.
