Complete in two volumes. Originally complete in one volume and here bound in two. With a portrait frontispiece and title vignette to volume one. The collected poetical works of Robert Southey, an English poet of the Romantic school, one of the Lake Poets, and Poet Laureate from 1813 until his death. Southey began his writing career as a radical but became steadily more conservative as he gained respect for Britain and its institutions. This collection contains titles such as: Joan of Arc, The Vision of the Maid of Orleans, The Triumph of Woman, Hymn to the Penates, and many others. With sections on his monodramas, English eclogues, and lyric poems, amongst other themes. Bound by Carss & Co.

Condition

Bound in half calf with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light spotting and minor age toning to the first and last few pages with the previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Bound by Carss & Co.
