Description

Early Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

An early edition of this work, which was first published in 1847, the year prior to Ruxton's death. He died in Missouri in 1848, prior to which he had been bedridden from a fall that occurred in the Rocky Mountains.

After resigning his post in the British Army, Ruxton travelled through Mexico to the Rocky Mountains, and the Great Plains, providing a view of the westward expansion of the United States in the 1840s, during the period when the country's government was pursuing its policy of manifest destiny.

In the original binding of Murray's Colonial Home Library.

A very smart copy of this work from one of the first Englishmen to write in detail about the Rocky Mountains.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with minor handling marks to boards. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
