Sydney Smith was an English wit, writer and Anglican cleric, best known for his writing and philosophy, founding the 'Edinburgh Review' and lecturing at the Royal Institution.
This set contains his articles originally published in the 'Edinburgh Review', a varied selection of his observations and essays and his speeches, sermons and letters.
Contents include 'Sermon on the Duties of the Queen', 'Speech on the Catholic Claims', 'Female Education', 'Cruel Treatment of Untried Prisoners' and much more.
Condition
Uniformly bound in full calf, with gilt to the spines. Externally, with darkening to the spines and marks to the boards. With minor rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spots to the endpapers. Small contemporary ink inscriptions to the front endpapers.
