First edition. Very scarce work. With an ink inscription from the author to the front endpaper in presentation to an Edward Walter. A detailed and comprehensive study of the life and times of Jeremy Taylor, a cleric in the Church of England who achieved fame as an author during the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell. He is sometimes known as the "Shakespeare of Divines" for his poetic style of expression, and he is often cited as one of the greatest prose writers in the English language. With reference to the influence of his predecessors and contemporaries, and the influence he may have had on his successors. Written by Robert Aris Willmott, an English cleric and author.
Condition
Bound in full calf. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Small cracks to the joints with minor loss to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor age toning to the endpapers. Author's ink inscription to the front endpaper.
