Illustrated with lithographic frontispieces, monochrome vignettes, and a large folding map to the front pocket of 'Vol I'. Collated, lacking the folding map to 'Vol II'.
George William Featherstonhaugh's account of his journey travelling in a canoe along the Wisconsin River to the Mississippi River, providing a geological account of the lead, copper and gold in the mountain regions of Georgia and North Carolina. The work also provided an account of his time with the Cherokee tribe. Featherstonhaugh was a noted geologist, and the first geologist to the US Government.

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally, wear to the extremities, small closed tears to the head and tails of the spines, a library label to the head of the spine to 'Vol I', slight leans, slight marks to the boards, and joints starting to 'Vol I'. Rear hinge starting to the front, and to the rear after pp. 414. to 'Vol I'. The odd spot and mark to the endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound with on map lacking, the odd page starting, with lightly age toned pages and the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear. Marks to the verso of the folding map.
