The second edition of this work, complete in two volumes, and published in the same year as the first edition.

An account of the expedition of the H.M.S. Dido to Borneo in the 1840s.

It was during this expedition that the author met and became friends with James Brooke, who had been made rajah of Sarawak.

Volume I discusses Brooke's time in Sarawak from 1838 to 1842, before he met Keppel. Volume II looks at the exploits of the two men together with Sir Edward Belcher.

Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, two folding maps, and four tinted lithographs. Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, four folding maps, one folding table, and five tinted lithographs.

Collated, complete.

Rebacked in morocco, retaining the publisher's original cloth covered boards, and with endpapers renewed. Retaining half titles.

With the contemporary inscription of Henderson Black of Woodford to the title page heads, dated 1846.

With a publisher's catalogue to the rear, dated June 1846.

Written by Henry Keppel, a prominent Victorian Royal Navy officer. He was the commanding officer of the corvette of HMS Dido.

Condition

Rebacked in morocco, retaining the publisher's original cloth covered boards, and with endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Contemporary inscriptions to title page heads. Pages bright and generally clean, with instances of spotting to plate perimeters, and pages facing plates. Minor loss to leaf edge with neat restoration to leaf a1 of volume II, short closed tear just touching odd letter to leaf e1 of volume II.
