'The Battle of Life' is the fourth of Dickens' spirited 'Christmas Books', set in an English village that stands on the site of a historic battle.
With an advertisement leaf to the rear, retaining the original half title.
With a former owner's inscription to the illustrated title page head.
A romantic novel, this is the only Christmas book that doesn't have any supernatural or explicitly religious elements.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with back strip age toned. Boards bright, though a touch age toned to fore edge of front board. Rear hinge lightly strained, but firmly held. Inscription to illustrated title page head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages just a touch age toned to perimeters, otherwise clean and bright.
