What Our Customers Say...
Description

The first edition.
Bound in the publisher's original blind stamped cloth.
Very scarce work.
Written by American travel writer, Sarah Rogers Haight, who wrote under the pseudonym 'The Lady of New York', paying homage to her home city. Haight spent four years on a Grand Tour of Europe, Asia and Africa, publishing two separate works from this time, of which 'Over the Ocean' is the second.
'Over the Ocean' focuses on Haight's time spent in Britain, Greece, Italy, Spain, and other European countries, presenting her views on the different cities, people and architecture she encountered. This work is based on letters she sent to a friend during her travels.
A fascinating view of Europe and Britain in the mid nineteenth century, from an American perspective.
