A charming journal following the author's travels through India from Madras in June through Calcutta in July, Midnapore in September, Balasore in December and more. With accounts of uses, customs, festivals, and numerous anecdotes.
Condition
Rebound in half calf over marbled boards, titles in gilt to morocco spine label, four raised bands, gilt tooling to spine. Externally with some shelf wear, rubbing to spine and extremities, front joint starting, holding firm. Previous owner's gift inscription to front blank leaf dated 1886. Previous ownership inscription to title page of Head's volume, dated 1846. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting affecting occasional leaf, otherwise pages generally clean throughout.
